In 2019, four teams independently arrived at the same gene: WRN. Switch it off in a colorectal cancer cell and the cell dies, while the normal cell beside it is fine β but only in cancers already carrying a fault called microsatellite instability (MSI).
That discovery came from a table, not from anyone's insight. 608 cell lines by 17,097 genes. The table is loaded into this page. Sort it yourself over 20 lessons and WRN is at the top.
How you'll learn
608 cell lines by 17,097 genes from DepMap, inside your browser. Data, not pictures.
We start from what a gene is. No biology class required. One question β why must both be lost?
The same table, sorted twice. 7th by t, 1st by effect size. Half this course is about that sentence.
Every lesson has a laboratory widget β move the threshold, drop a tissue, flip the ranking, all by hand.
