Designing a vaccine
for a disease nobody has had
BtHKU5-CoV-2, reported from bats in March 2025, uses human ACE2 โ the same receptor SARS-CoV-2 used. Not one human case has been reported.
This paper designed a vaccine candidate for it without a single experiment and submitted five months later. This volume follows the first half of that pipeline: choosing a target and screening down to twenty epitopes.
We do not only follow. We recount the paper's own tables and find several facts the paper's text does not state.
Python runs right inside this page. There is nothing to install.
How you'll learn
A bat virus that uses human ACE2. Human cases so far: zero.
Seven tools, six thresholds. Move a threshold and the vaccine changes.
That twenty epitopes sit in eleven loci is not in the paper. We count it.
Every number here is a prediction. Lesson 20 draws the line.
