First you attack,
then you block
An introduction to information and network security for the person who has just been handed an e-commerce server. Instead of only reading, you attack the server yourself, watch the attack work, and then block it.
A virtual server is assigned to you, so even the attack commands are safe — no real traffic leaves the page.
How you'll learn
A hash is a fingerprint, a public key is one half of a pair, a firewall is a doorkeeper. Unfamiliar security ideas are explained in terms of things you already know.
Every command has a run button. It all runs on the virtual server that is yours alone, so break it as much as you like.
Sweep the host with nmap, break a password, pull member records out with SQL injection. You have to know the attack to stop it.
Work out why the attack that just succeeded succeeded, and shut it down on the spot. Take the security score from F to A.
